Gozo by scooter: a one-day guide
Gozo is small enough to see in a day on two wheels. Here is how we'd spend it.
Plan your day
Pick up your scooter next to the Mġarr ferry terminal when you arrive, or in Victoria or Santa Luċija if you are staying on the island. Start early, keep the afternoon for the west coast, and be back before 16:00.
Victoria and the Citadel
Gozo's capital sits in the middle of the island. Park near the centre and walk up to the Citadel for views over the whole of Gozo.
Ramla Bay
The island's best-known beach, with red-golden sand, on the north coast. A favourite stop for a swim.
Marsalforn and the salt pans
A seaside village with cafés and restaurants. Ride west along the coast to see the centuries-old salt pans cut into the rock.
Dwejra
Dramatic cliffs and the Inland Sea on the west coast, where the Azure Window once stood. Go late in the day for the light.
Xlendi
A small bay framed by cliffs on the south-west coast — a relaxed place for lunch by the water.
Ta' Pinu Basilica
A landmark church in open countryside near Għarb, easy to combine with a ride to Dwejra.
Riding tips
- Traffic drives on the left in Malta and Gozo.
- Roads can be narrow and steep in places — take it easy on bends and in villages.
- Keep your phone on the holder for maps, and wear your helmet at all times.
- Scooters and e-bikes are for public roads on Gozo only, never off-road.
Which ride for this route?
For two people, or if you want power for the hills, choose the 125cc. Riding alone with a car licence? The 50cc is easy and light. No licence? Take the e-bike.
